The Xperia U is one of Sony's first phones since taking control of the Sony Ericsson brand. The leaked photo below shows the leaked photo of the Xperia U, which looks a lot like the Sony Xperia S, complete with transparent strip at the bottom but with a smaller 3.5-inch screen. It is rumoured to ba equipped with a 1GHz processor and a 5-megapixel camera, with the screen displaying 480 x 854 resolution. HTC's Primo is the latest smartphone to take a turn through the rumour mill and some juicy specs is leaked ahead straight from an anonymous tipster. If you like your phones compact, you'll like the sound of the HTC Primo's 9mm waistline and 3.7" Super AMOLED screen with Gorilla Glass protection – although the screen's resolution has yet to be confirmed. The Primo will also come with Ice Cream Sandwich straight out of the box with HTC Sense 4.0 slathered on top but under the Primo's hood there's what could be a slightly disappointing 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor and 512MB of RAM. The HTC Primo's rear camera won't be far behind the specs of the 8MP snapper featured on the Edge and Ville – it will shoot 5MP stills and 720p video and its f/ 2.0 aperture will let in more light than other smartphone cams – helping you capture that group shot outside the kebab shop. Plus its dual shutter mode means you'll be able to take snaps whilst filming your HD video. The Primo will come packing Beats Audio tech for bass lovers.
If nothing goes wrong, there will be an HTC event on the 26th Feb as HTC looks to announce its new smartphones the day before the Mobile World Congress starts. The star of the event is perhaps the HTC Endeavor aka Edge. The Endeavor is one hell of a device with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, courtesy of the Tegra 3 platform, 1GB of RAM, 4.7-inch 720p screen, 8-megapixel shooter with 1080p video capture and loaded with Ice Cream Sandwich.
This piece of news might surprise you as Intel is coming to the mobile world. A reference smartphone, based on the Intel's Medfield platform is a 4" beast pack with a single-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2460 chip, XXM 6260 modem and Intel GMA graphics, along with your requisite WiFi radio, accelerometer, etc. This reference smartphone will come with Gingerbread. Though battery life will naturally vary by manufacturer, this particular device houses a 1,460mAh battery promising 45 hours of audio playback, eight hours of 3G voice calls, five hours of 3G browsing and 14 days of standby. At the same time, Intel was demoing Modern Combat 2, as you can see in that lead shot, and playing HD video playing through the phone's micro-HDMI slot.
Another device to get on the AT&T LTE bandwagon is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ion. This device is Sony Ericsson’s first LTE enabled device and has no less than one massively impressive 12-megapixel camera. The back facing camera is also able to film 1080p video, while the front-facing camera is capable of 720p video. This device is both sleek and lovely. This device is working with a 720p display, has a set of functions called Fast Capture which allows you to go from asleep to taking a photo in under 1.5 seconds. For video output there’s a microHDMI port, this right next to the microUSB port – the two of them looking rather similar to the setup Motorola has on their latest suite of dual-core devices. There’s also a Smart Dock which you’ll be able to pick up that also has the same functionality Motorola’s recent docks do, this time with no additional power port – just USB, USB, microHDMI, and microUSB.
Corning has officially announced Gorilla Glass 2, the company’s next generation of damage-resistant glass. Gorilla Glass 2 is 20% thinner than its predecessor and will be featured on slimmer and sleeker devices, while producing brighter images, greater touch sensitivity, and the same toughness we all love. “We knew Corning Gorilla Glass could get even better,” said James R. Steiner, Corning’s senior vice president and general manager. “In response to our customers’ drive toward thinner form factors, we designed this new glass to enable meaningful reduction in thickness without sacrificing the outstanding glass performance for which Gorilla Glass has become highly recognized.” The second generation of Gorilla Glass will be first featured in Windows-based PCs early this year. Introduced in 2007, Corning’s Gorilla Glass has become the most widely deployed glass for mobile devices and is currently featured on more than 575 product models, spanning more than 500 million units worldwide. Corning is expecting reach more than $700 million in 2011 sales, nearly triple the company’s 2010 results.
There are news dated back in December that Sony will be slowly phasing out the Sony Ericsson brand by mid of 2012. It is now known that Sony Ericsson will be rebranded as Sony Mobile Communications and all the phones which will be announced and released from this point on will be only wearing the "Sony" branding. The old Sony Ericsson logo is also dumped and, to testify to all the above the Sony Xperia Ion as well as the Sony Xperia S are only labeled as Sony.
The rumoured Nozomi device of Sony Ericsson make has finally come to light. Xperia S is the device that Sony Ericsson finally announced in CES 2012. The specifications are made to impress. Besides the gap-free laminated Reality Display, the Xperia S features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 12-megapixel Exmor R camera sensor, NFC support, PlayStation certification, and a unique "transparent element" along the bottom that offsets the solid black face. It'll be available in both black and white when it launches toward the end of the first quarter in "select markets." It'll have Gingerbread out of the gate but Sony is promising the upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich in the 2nd quarter.
If you think the Lumia 800 is the flagship device for Nokia, think again. Nokia just launched the Lumia 900, the newest addition in the Lumia series at CES 2012. The Lumia 900 is packing a 4.3-inch ClearBlack display, 1.4GHz single-core CPU, 512MB of RAM, and sports a 8MP Carl Zeiss f/2.2 camera with LED flash that's capable of cranking out 720p HD video capture, as well as a 1.3MP front-facing camera that uses f/2.4. The 1,840mAh battery is inclusive due to the phone's unibody polycarbonate build and can't be removed, but we're happy to see that the Lumia 900 will be able crank out the LTE for a decent amount of time. There is no significant difference in the looks department between this and its predecessor, the Lumia 800, aside from the presence of a frontward-facing camera and the obvious larger display. The larger phone was still comfortable to hold and felt solid with its polycarbonate build.
We havent had enough of the HTC Titan and here comes its successor. HTC has revealed the HTC Titan 2 at CES 2012 held in Vegas. The Titan 2 is basically a HTC Titan with LTE radio equipped. Now listen to this! The Titan 2 has a 16 megapixel camera with backside illuminated sensor, f/2.6 AF lens and dual LED flash. This is a huge leap from the 8 megapixels sensor and f/2.2 lens on the original Titan. The industrial design is more traditional HTC compared to the rather elegant look and feel of its predecessor. The camera quality is said to be excellent. We're extremely impressed with the camera so far. Stay tuned more impressions and hit the break for our hands-on video, sample shots, and sample video. The Titan 2 is packing a single core 1.5GHz Snapdragon and a 1,730mAh battery pack. The big capacity battery is needed to keep that huge 4.7" display and power-sucking 4G radio humming as long as possible. Is this the reason why HTC is not bringing in the Titan to Singapore?
Leaked photos have been circulating of an upcoming Windows Phone smartphone from LG called the LG Fantasy. The phone may see a release sometime in Q1 of 2012. The Fantasy will come with Mango installed and a very crispyly nice 4 inch IPS display. Benchmark tests put the Fantasy at 85.7, beating out the HTC Radar's score of 81.56. This led some of the forum members to believe that the Fantasy is a 2nd gen 1Ghz processor, comparing it to the HTC Radar’s 2nd gen 1Ghz Snapdragon. The phone’s 4-inch display is supposedly bright but responsive, and the phone itself is very light. It also has about 8GB of internal memory and a front facing camera at 1.3 MP; some members believe that the back camera looks as if it says 8-megapixels. With the possible 2012 Q1 launch, we may get more LG Fantasy specs at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month.
