Hi, if you just want to simply read chinese on your 818/838/900/atom w/o installing those unstable chinese software (I have to hardreset my 818 pro because of cestar), these are a few simple (well almost ) steps to get it working.

Note: Use these steps at your own risk, though I sucessfully tested on my Dopod 818 pro.

1) Download cestar 2.8 here
2) Extract the zip file and locate the sunglobe.ttf font file
3) Copy this to your \Windows\ directory on your mobile device
4) Add in the following registry:
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\
add a new key call FontLink
Under the Fontlink Key add another key call SystemLink
5) Now add the following 4 "String" values to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink

[Name of value] [Value (in bold)]
Times New Roman \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
Arial \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
Courier New \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun
Tahoma \Windows\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun

Do a soft reset and you are done.
N.B I don't know is it just me but after you do the soft reset sometimes, the registry changes will disappear. Try to modify some settings (like ringtone) before you do a soft reset, maybe this would make the registry "stick".

To Jshun, don't know if your solution is the same as mine, but I remember you used other font, not sunglobe which is by far the best looking chinese fonts.

For Pocket PC, the method is the same.

I use another font because sunglobe.ttf isn't offically free, it is illegal as long as you use it without paying for the software after expiry, I don't want to take more risk by distributing it,

About the registry, remember to exit the editor and wait for a while to reset, do not leave the editor in the memory by pressing Ok.

turn off your device before resetting it, because WM5 keeps some things in RAM and by cycling the power it will write to ROM.

ok, I downloaded a font HDZB_36 into the Windows directory and found that I don't need it anymore. However, file explorer doesn't allow me to delete this file away with the error msg "Cannot delete HDZB_36: There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use."

Strange because I am not sure which program is using this font. I also didn't edit my registry. Help needed.

Found the way to remove the unwanted fonts finally. The font file is 4.5mb and it took up lots of the memory space.

sorry, two questions: -

1. is there a free font with a small filesize that will display chinese characters accurately for WM5 devices? I like the nina.xx files that we used on the smartphones.

2. i tried storing the file in the storage card and changed the registry to read \Storage Card\sunglobe.ttf,UniSun for the various fonts. Unfortunately it didn't work, so I have to move the font back to the main storage. The sunglobe.ttf is a rather large file and I don't want to use up so much of the internal storage.
