I have this bizarre Activesync problem when I try to do Activesync with my office PC, which runs on Windows XP SP2. I did my search and is aware of the firewall issue. But in my case, the 6828 is shown as connected by the Activesync screen just won't pop up and as such, I cannot even select any option. When I clicked the Activesync icon (which is green and show that the PPC is connected), the only option I have are 1) Open Microsoft Activesync <which I can't>, 2) Connection Settings <but since its connected, there is not much I can do under this menu> 3) Explore <when I click this, error message is "Critical communication services have failed to start. Try resetting the mobile device, and then connect again". I did but still the same thing. My office network has a firewall but according to the IT Help Desk, the firewall did not seem to block my PPC from syncing with the PC.
I have tried other USB ports and using different USB cable. The same problem still persist. Can anybody help please?

I can't tell from the PC because I cannot open the Activesync. The only option I can call up is the Connection Setting and it does not even show how is it connected. In short, I have never been able to set up a partnership with my PC.

Yes, we do have access rights. I didn't have problem with my previous 6365 but with this 6828, WM 5.0 and Activesync 4.1 (I tried 4.2 beta) and with USB patch as well, its problematic. I am able to access the firewall and it does not seem to block Activesync. Hence the status was shown connected. Strange right?

try uninstall activesync, download 4.2 beta and reinstall again and see if you have the same problem.

I also have the same problem as you. But mine is a little different. I used ActiveSync about 5 months and today suddently, my pc cannot connect my ppc. I checked network, but there is IP address and packets are sent and recieived. But on the ActiveSync, it is showing "Connecting" only. I change USB cable but it didnt work. I tried with other pc also the same. I reinstalled ActiveSync but the problem is still there.
Until now, it keeps on connecting, but it is not connected.
Anybody knows how to solve this problem?
P.S: my ppc is Atom. Not rw6828

Thanks guys for all your help. My problem still persist despite trying the following options:
1) Restart PC
2) Softset PC
3) Reinstall Activesync 4.1 and then 4.2 beta
4) Run the USB switch patch
5) Change USB cable as well as switching to other USB ports. Initially I was using the USB card bus (PCMCIA). Then I tried to use the USB ports on my docking station. Still the same problem. The only thing I have not done is to try to use the laptop USB port
Even my IT support guys are at their wits end. They have even suggested leaving my PPC with them for my intensive check. This may well be the last resort... :sowwy:
