I have been using MapKing 2007 with my Palm 750v before changing over to i780, I have used the Agis on Sony Ericsson P1i before, comparing the 2 I love Mapking.

After changing over to i780, I had a mental block to use the Agis, and was trying the Mapking on the i780, I read that in order to use MapKing on i780 will need to install port splitter, tried and got the whole set screw up, both Agis and Mapking all can not work, no choice did a hard reset.

After the hard reset, Agis back to action and gave up trying MapKing, after some uses, I find Agis not so bad. Since then I stop thinking of Mapking and happy with Agis.

I don't know about Agis or Mapking... but to me Garmin MXT works "efficiently" on my i780. Just hit the "GPS" keyboard button and GMXT is launched. No need to launch port splitter or install realVGA or whatsoever.

Hey guys, don't get me wrong, I was not criticizing anyone! The only scorn I have, is reserved for the bundled Agis software - see my post here:

I have to admit it is functional, but barely so. There have been many reports of stability issues during useage (especially at the end of the trip?) and the UI is so bad, it's not even funny. Also, with the default 128dpi, everything renders horribly - another testament that very little thought had gone into choosing a suitable bundled application.

What I meant from my reply to fellow forumer cme, was that: if he was impressed with Agis, he'd fall out of his seat with MobileXT! Great, mature product, works well in all sorts of DPIs, resolutions. Surely, we need to try out different applications to have a basis for comparison, no?

Yup, you can have both running (not at the same time, I think!) but definitely both installed.

It's not freeware, unfortunately, but you can try out this link posted by Symphony

Download the smallest file you can get your hands on, it should have the included MobileXT.

You can then replace the included region's map with the one from malsing.

Hi all,

We know that the latest firmware is out. After upgrading the firmware, can we just restore the previous backup from the previous firmware? This will save us the trouble of reloading every programs.

You can backup and restore using Sprite Backup. But then after any Rom upgrade it is advisable to install back everything from scratch. Some proggies may appear to work okay with new Rom but later discover that it screwed up something here and there.

Hi Chak,

While I agree with you about the Agis being buggy - Garmin Mobile XT is not without it's short comings.

Comparing with Mapking, I find the Garmin search function to be somewhat lacking:

1. Mapking can search by Postal Code - Garmin - relying now on dedicated Malsingmaps community to compile - still far from it, and also search is slow.

2. Mapking/Agis can search by proper address and blocks. For Garmin - you need to know the short form to find e.g. amkst41 436 for Ang Mo Kio St 41 Blk 436 Carpark.

3. Garmin routing and re-routing calculation is very much slower. Voice prompts also not available for speed traps and cameras.

But having said that - I still prefer Garmin's interface - it is definitely more 'finger' friendly compared to the rest. If only we can have the BEST of both worlds. :w00t:
