Hi Jordan,

I agree somewhat with your comments, and have some replies of my own. And please, don't take this personally, I would just like to share my experience using Agis, MapKing, Garmin MobileXT, Garmin Que and a dedicated Garmin Nuvi. Nothing personal, please, just trying to contribute to the collective wisdom of this forum (lest someone accuses me of being critical again). Anyways, here goes:

Point 1: Postal Code Searches
You are absolutely right on this one. It is, however, a work-in-progress feature that will be included in future maps. Also, Symphony has a great post in the Maps/GPS subforum which outlines how one can attain that functionality now. It's not exactly straightforward, nor is the postal code database completely populated, but it gives a good indication of good stuff to come.

Point 2: Proper addresses and block numbers
Erm, not entirely accurate. If searching for a block number, just type, say "234" as illustrated in the screenshots, then all blocks 234 will show up. For address searches, can also type in the road rame as in the screenshots. One never requires to know the shortform, that's just used by the mappers to tag the carpark entrances - for use in the block number searches.

Point 3:
When talking about "speed", I guess it can be quite subjective. To be fair, I have used Garmin Que on previous HP iPaq 6965 and iPaq rx5770, and the route calculation was significantly slower - sometimes up to 2 secs. MobileXT on the i780 is a lot quicker, mostly < 1sec. This could probably be due to the faster processor, I don't know. Using the dedicated Nuvi had the fastest recalculation times, almost instantaneous. But seriously, I think even 2 secs would be acceptable, except in the most pressing situations?
You are correct about the voice prompts for speed traps and cameras though. But I personally find it annoying, and feel that its a good thing! But hey, different folks, different strokes, eh?

But really, the most compelling reason for me choosing Garmin - it actually tells you the name of the road/exit you're supposed to turn to, not just "turn in 500m". It really helps when there are a few turns closely spaced in front of me. Also, when on the expressway, you know which exit you're supposed to take - instead of a blind reliance to the distance countdown.

GPS navigation is supposed to be a tool, and not a substitute for knowing the roads well. It is no wonder taxi uncles smirk, when they see the Nuvi as they pull up beside me at traffic lights...

So really guys, please try out all that's available out there in the market - then, and only then, can you make an informed decision.

Comparing with Mapking, I find the Garmin search function to be somewhat lacking:

Forget Mapking, the hassle of using PortSplitter turns me off.

Once you have used Garmin XT, you won't want to turn back. If you are looking for ease of use, functionality and official support, Garmin is the way to go. Managed to lock on to 12 Sats simultaneously. Garmin looks more professional IMO.

Does anyone here know their GPRS / MMS settings well?

When I first purchased my i780 from StarHub, everything worked fine. Then after installing several software and try-outs, I decided to do a hard reset and re-install everything again - sort of like, to clean up all the installations lah. Anyway,

Once I did the hard reset, I couldn't send out MMS - there was previously no issue at all, no settings needed to be done, and I could send MMS out of the box. This time, while attempting to send, the phone even tried logging on to Singtel?!

Does anyone know the settings to use so that I can send MMS's out as per normal, BUT won't force the PDA to keep logging on to GPRS when I surf the net? In other words, I want to surf via Wi-fi, but send MMS via GPRS?

I hope I make sense... And I hope other toots to this like me can benefit as well... :sowwy:

No use writing to mobem. they never reply. I wrote twice to them with ZERO responce!!!

Based on Mobem website, the latest release (CE Star v28Rc)support Samsung SGH-i780. This version will retain the i780 mouse functionality. However, I find the performance of my device sluggish after installing the latest version, and it hanged my device for the 1st time yesterday after using it for about 3 weeks.

Think I will do a hard reset and uninstall it later.
