Dear all,

Would like to get any opinion on whether to get a LCD TV or a LCD Monitor for my desktop usage. Will want to create one corner to use it for my desktop and gaming (Wii/Xbox), thus would like to know which would you prefer if you have a choice.

This means the tv/monitor needs rca, hdmi, component cable slot, vga slot.

if i'm in your position i will look at other factors. Budget, Min. Screen Size, additional good quality speakers (headset), cost/depreciation calculations and self fufillments factors. :smile:

based on what you had written. I think a LCD TV will solve all your problems.

ps. btw why do you need hdmi? wii and xbox doesn't require such port..

Hehehee... cos considering xbox 360 or PS3. I was walking around Sim Lim few days back. 22 inch is around 500-600. LCD tvs nowadays 32 inch, can get one decent one not more than 900...

i had been walking for the past 1 year.. LOL!!

Anyway to share with u,
LCD Monitor (which may look cheaper but not exactly), requires:-
1) Speakers ($ depends on quality and brand - Additional Power supply needed and definitely MORE WIRES! = ugly!)
2) External Video Device *recommended* ($100-$200) For direct input of video without switch on your computer if you just wanted to play with your game system. - Additional power supply needed.)
*Note: you can choose to use Internal Video/TV Tuner but the resolution may look abit squarish for gaming. (i got mine for $78/ and i spoiled after 1 year - lesson learnt.)

Alternatively,

LCD TV, I didn't get to test it out for its resolution (but i doubt computer's resolution may not be that good on lcd tv - check with other members). But it seems like less problematic to me. Speakers included. Bigger Screen and VERY suitable for game consoles. Plus you can just switch on and play games directly without switching on your desktop! (Less connections = Less wires! Less complicated!! = LESS HEADACHE!! )

I would suggest LCD TV for the following reasons:-

1. Can also watch TV after you are tired of playing games

2. Speakers included

3. Almost all the new LCDs have RCA, Component and VGA inputs. As for HDMI, that depends.

4. You can also hook up the LCD to other devices e.g DVD recorder/players, Wii, Xbox, etc etc.

Precisely! You can watch TV without the need for an additional TV Turner and it usually comes with the necessary component ports which tks had added.

However! You need a good soundcard for your desktop which provides the necessary audio ports for you to plug into both your LCD TV and cpu. And also, try finding & testing out the resolutions compatibility for lcd tv and desktop. (anyone can verify the quality?)

btw, try not to get a lcd tv bigger than 37". I came across this article a year ago and it claims that you will visually see quality flaws in motion pictures. I'm not sure whether this still implies on current models. But no matter what it is, read reviews from the net before buying. Sometimes, salesman doesn't even know what they are trying to sell. =/

My computer table is small that i think 32 inch is already very big for me le.... Hahahaa... I went walking best denki just now and saw a LG LCD TV at 899...

Damnz gianz to get the tv... Hahahaa...

For the soundcard, i don't think my desktop has good sound card, but the tv is more for my xbox 360/ps3... Hahaha...

My concern is that the desktop, how will the resolutions be like... Anyone has hooked this combination up before?
