Ensure your device is accessing the correct network

Although Starhub TV is accessible from internet, you must be be accessing from Starhub's MaxMobile broadband network, and not Wifi or Activesync. In additional to that, you need to access via their proxy. Here are the steps to configure your connection setting correctly in your mobile device. Obviously the first prerequsite is to subscribe to Starhub Mobile broadband service.

  • Open the connection setting page (Start > Settings > Connections tab > Connection icon > Advanced tab > select Networks)
  • Under, "Program that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using", Select "Starhub Internet Settings" and click on "Edit". If you do not have this entry for selection, click on "New"
  • Tap on Modem tab, select "Starhub Internet" and click on "Edit". If you do not have this entry, click on "New".
  • Ensure that the modem is configured as "Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)", click "Next".
  • Ensure that the access point name is configured as "shwap", click "Next"
  • Clear the User name, password and domain, and click "Finish"
  • Tab on Proxy Settings tab, ensure that "This networks connects to the Internet" is ticked.
  • Ensure that "This network uses a proxy server" is ticked. This step is optional if you are using Opera to access Mobile TV. If you are using Opera, you can set the proxy using the Opera configuration page.
    • Set the proxy server as "10.12.1.2"

Once you are done, you have set up your network configuration, and this will allow you to access Starhub resources correctly without being prompted to login. You will however need to configure your browser, so that Starhub can recognise your device as a supported handset model.

Ensure your device is configured correctly as an supported model

This process is required regardless of whether you are using IE mobile or Opera browser. Depending on what browser you are using, the steps could be different.

Steps for Opera browser users

  • Run Opera browser, and enter "opera:config" in the URL box. This will open a configuration page.
  • Set up User Agent Profile (UAProf)
    • Scroll down to the User Prefs section
    • Search for "Custom User agent", set the value to "HTC_Touch_HD_T8282 Opera/9.0 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)"
      • You can set other user agent string that represents other handset models, as long as the handset model is one of the certified handset models for Starhub TV service.
    • Search for "UAProf URL"
      • You can find a list of UAProf URLs from this external link
      • If your handset is one of the models certified by Starhub to access its Starhub TV service, enter your handset's UAProf URL accordingly.
      • If your handset is not in the supported model list, you can workaround the problem by using the supported handset's UAProf URL. For e.g. if you have a SonyEricsson Xperia X1 phone, which is not certified by Starhub, you can use UAProf URL for Touch HD or Samsung Omnia.
    • Search for "UAProf URL Enabled", and tick the checkbox.
    • Scroll to the bottom of User Pref section, and click on "Save".
  • Setup Proxy
    • Scroll down to the Proxy section
    • Search for "HTTP server", set the value to "10.12.1.2"
    • Search for "Use HTTP", and tick the checkbox.
    • Scroll to the bottom of Proxy section, and click on "Save".

Steps for IE browser users

Start enjoying your Mobile TV experience

Once you have completed the network and user agent profile configuration, you should be able to access Starhub TV via your mobile device. You can access Starhub Mobile TV from Starhub Gee! menu, by navigating through Gee! > Sports > Football Channels. You can also access Starhub Mobile TV home page directly by entering http://mobiletv.starhubgee.com.sg in the URL box.

Useful troubleshooting tips

If you still have trouble accessing Starhub Mobile TV page or any of the channels, despite carrying out the above steps, you can take a reference to the following points to troubleshoot your problem

You got a login prompt page when you go to Starhub Gee!or Mobile TV home page The problem is most likely caused by incorrect or lack of proxy setting in your browser or your device connection profile. If you are using IE mobile, you need to ensure that you set the proxy via Start > Connections > Connection as IE Mobile does not have its own proxy configuration page which the Opera has.

You could get into Starhub Gee! home page, but you didn't see any link to Starhub Mobile TV channels The problem is most likely caused by incorrect or lack of User Agent Profile setting. To verify this, you can access Fiddler on your mobile browser, and check if you have the right HTTP header information displayed. If you do not see X-wap-profile or User-Agent, then it's most likely a configuration problem.

You got a "Your handset is not supported model" page when you tried to click on the TV channel, or Mobile TV home page The problem is most likely caused by incorrect or lack of User Agent Profile setting. See previous point for more information.

You got a "Unrecognised media format" error message after you clicked on the TV channel The problem is most likely caused by missing streaming media player in your device. This software, which should not be mistaken as the default Windows media player, is required to stream and playback RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol ) video on your mobile device.

The video is streaming, but the resolution is poor on my VGA or WVGA device The problem is most likely caused by an incorrect UAProf URL, which points to the profile of the handset device, such as the screen size and resolution. Make sure you set the right UAProf URL, such as the one for Touch HD or Samsung Omnia.

You got a "Cannot find network" error message after a media player tried to open the TV channel Your streaming media player may not have setup correctly to use the correct network, make sure it is using "Starhub Internet Settings" or other connection profile you have created earlier.
